This is a comprehensive introductory course for persons who are new to the field or have had less than two years of experience in the nursing home or do not have a college degree in the closely related field of study; therefore, there is a wide range of information. Some of it will be basic and some of it is quite technical. There is a lot of medical information because our residents are in the nursing home for medical care. This course is not a “how to make crafts” or even “how to set up a particular activity” course; however, this course will prepare people for that stage. This course is designed to give you background information for your position.

If you care to share some of your activity and craft ideas, please bring copies of your information to share with the other participants. We will make a table available to display the items. Please do not expect the hotel staff to allow you to use their copy machine or expect GHCA staff to be able to copy it for you. It is your responsibility if you want to bring information. (This is a great way to share information and get to know other people.)

Your registration fee includes your coffee breaks and snacks; therefore, you will be responsible for your own meals. There are restaurants nearby. We suggest no on travel alone. Please “buddy up” in groups of three or more if you are going out at night.

There are hotels in the area listed below and a map of the hotels is included in this packet. The hotel registration time is generally 3:00 p.m. This is a standard time for most hotels. You can register earlier (or after class), just don’t expect your room to be ready before 3:00 p.m. Be sure you ask for the Georgia Health Care Association rate.
