Advanced Wound Management in Long Term Care: Focus on Pressure Ulcers
You may be asking, "What does ‘advanced’ mean in wound care?"
"Advanced" may be defined as "progressive" which is the ideal in management of your residents with chronic wounds.
This course is geared toward progressing you along in your care of wounds, primarily the pressure ulcer. We will utilize wound photos and scenarios to determine where the COMPLEX wound is and where we want it to go and how we can get there AS WELL AS THE WOUND THAT HAS STALLED IN ITS PROGRESSION TOWARD HEALING.
It is recommended you brush up on the phases of wound healing prior to this program (Phases: inflammatory, proliferative, and maturation).

Bonnie Sparks is a Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) Nurse Clinician/Instructor at the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Education Center at Emory University Atlanta, GA. Her responsibilities include 1) clinical-outpatient vascular, urology, general surgery and continence clinics; 2) instructor-WOC Nursing Educational Programs-onsite and distance learning. Bonnie conducts educational programs for local groups (facility based and industry) and nationally.
Bonnie Sparks is the Proprietor & Director of Wound Management Institute: a wound care educational and consulting business-providing education for professional groups (nursing and rehabilitation), professional schools, and healthcare facilities, including acute care, rehabilitation, and long term care facilities.
