Position Information

MDS Coordinator
Must demonstrate strong clinical skills and possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel,
family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public. Must be able to
function independently as well as under supervision. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and
medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to
long term care. Must possess ability to make independent decisions when circumstances
warrant such action. Must possess leadership and supervisory capabilities and the
willingness to work harmoniously with professional and nonprofessional personnel. Must
possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals,
objectives, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care. Must have
patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle
difficult residents. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to
incorporate them into existing nursing practices. Must be able to learn new software
programs quickly.

Requirements Carries out MDS and Restorative nursing program administrative duties including
departmental budget and planning functions. Assist DON and Clinical Coordinator in daily
functions of the nursing facility, assumes responsibility during on call rotation. Directs staff
developmental functions. Assist Clinical Coordinator in all functions of the restorative nursing
program. Assures the residents' right are protected. Maintains a safe environment. Directs all
residents MDS and Care planning functions. Demonstrates effective communications,
organizational and clinical skills. Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, providing care of
residents ages adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Must be able to move intermittently including bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs and
reaching through the work day using good body mechanics. Must have visual acuity to read
printed material and visualize residents to the degree that changes in color or reparations
can be detected; hearing ability to understand the normal speaking voice without viewing the
speaker and auscultation of the chest using a stethoscope; and speaking ability to answer
and ask pertinent questions and relay information. Must be able to cope with mental and
emotional stress, and be in general good health, physical and emotional. Must be able to
work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.
