House funding for nursing homes provides much-needed relief

The Georgia Health Care Association today praised the Georgia House for including in its 2022 amended budget increased funding for nursing homes, which have faced emergency conditions during COVID-19 that have threatened access to care for Georgia's seniors. The House bill increases homes' Medicaid reimbursement rate $10 per patient per day retroactive to July 1, 2021, providing Georgia nursing homes with an additional $79,252,790 in state and federal funds.
 
“Nursing homes and their incredible, dedicated workforce have served on the frontlines of the COVID pandemic for more than two years and doing what's right to preserve the health of patients has come at a high financial cost which has threatened access to care for vulnerable Georgians,” said Tony Marshall, President and CEO of GHCA. “This investment will help provide a strong measure of stability that will directly impact the quality of care being delivered to Georgia seniors and is a vital step in the recovery of nursing homes that our state is going to need as the senior population surges over the next decade.
