A Tribute to House Speaker David Ralston

GHCA is deeply saddened by the passing of one of the greatest leaders our state has ever seen and a steadfast friend of the long term care profession, House Speaker David Ralston. Speaker Ralston was a true advocate for our residents and our mission to provide care of the highest quality to vulnerable Georgians, and we cannot overstate our gratitude for his steadying and compassionate leadership through the years. We honor his legacy, which will leave an enduring impact not only on the entire state and our profession, but in our hearts.

As we pay tribute to his years of service to our state, we ask that you please join us in keeping Speaker Ralston's wife Sheree and their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

A statement from GHCA Legislative Chair and beloved niece of Speaker Ralston, Sarah Ralston Stephens:

“At a time like this, it is truly difficult to find the words to express the amount of respect and appreciation that I have for the life of my Uncle, Speaker David Ralston.

He loved this state, especially the north Georgia mountains he called home, and his family and friends with every fiber of his being. He led a life of service and dedication that positively impacted the lives of every Georgian.

He held a deep and personal appreciation for the long term care profession and the citizens entrusted in its care. Please know the friendships built over the years were treasured and appreciated.

Thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers and support for our family during this time of reflection and remembrance.”

A statement from GHCA leader Debbie Meade:

“Speaker Ralston touched the lives and hearts of many, including my own. He performed the induction ceremony when I was elected as Chair of the Association in 2011, and I have been very fortunate to have worked closely with him on many issues impacting our profession through the years. He was a dear and treasured friend to my family and me, and we will miss him greatly.

Through his years of service, Speaker Ralston was a true champion for Georgia's seniors and never wavered in his support of our cause. His compassion and steadfastness have served as a guiding light through some of the toughest circumstances our profession has ever faced. The state has never seen a finer leader, and I am forever grateful to have known him, worked alongside him, and to have called him my friend.”

A Statement from GHCA Board Chair Jerry Patton:

“Speaker Ralston epitomized the spirit of servant leadership, and he leaves a remarkable impact on the state and the long term care profession. He cared deeply about issues impacting the vulnerable individuals in our care, was a guiding hand through tumultuous times, and served as a tireless advocate for Georgia's seniors under the Gold Dome for many years.

He was a pillar of our State, an irreplaceable leader, and we are all profoundly grateful for his support and championship of our mission. GHCA joins the entire state in mourning the loss of Speaker Ralston and reflecting on his legacy.”
