The purpose of the campaign is to encourage organizations, businesses, and individuals to post on social media pictures or videos of themselves wearing masks and to accompany these posts with #MaskUpGA and a message about why they “mask up.”
“This campaign is about Georgians coming together for the greater good,” said GHCA President & CEO Tony Marshall. “Individuals residing in nursing centers and assisted living communities are most vulnerable to this virus and, by doing our part to limit community spread, we can better protect the elderly residing in long term care communities and the dedicated caregivers who serve them. We urge everyone to make the choice to wear a mask as part of collective efforts to stop the spread of this virus.”
Research and data show that wearing face coverings helps reduce the spread of COVID-19. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), wearing masks is “a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of disease, particularly when used universally within communities.” The CDC further states that wearing masks potentially slows the spread of the virus from one person to another.
Additionally, data shows that nursing centers and assisted living communities located in communities with higher incidences of COVID-19 are more likely to have a higher number of cases in their buildings. As long term care communities across the State continue to battle this virus, it is more important now than ever that Georgians come together to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and help protect the elderly and medically fragile citizens of our state.
GHCA joins the Georgia Hospital Association and several other organizations around the state in committing to the campaign's efforts.
