A Tribute to Our Friend, Lucy Rogers

We are heavy hearted by the passing of Lucy Rogers. Lucy was a true champion of long term care, our Queen of Quality, a mentor to many, and beloved by all who knew her. She was fiercely committed to advancing quality care for elderly Georgians and laid the foundation for many of our quality initiatives that are in place today. As a one-of-a-kind leader, she touched the lives of countless nurses and long term care professionals during her lifetime. All who knew Lucy would say it was an honor and a privilege to have worked alongside her, and her legacy will be felt near and far.

When Lucy ran for a position on the GHCA Board of Directors years ago, some of you may recall her colleagues handing out buttons ahead of elections at the GHCA Summer Convention that read, “I Love Lucy.” It's true that all of us at GHCA loved Lucy, and we are forever grateful for her lifetime of work on behalf of the vulnerable individuals we serve.

As we pay tribute to Lucy's life and legacy, we ask that you join us in keeping her husband, Glynn; her son, Michael; and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

A Statement from CHSGa President & CEO Ronnie Rollins:

“Lucy began her career as a nurse in 1970. After serving 12 years in a hospital setting, she entered the long-term care industry as the Administrator of Chaplinwood Nursing Home in Milledgeville, Georgia. Lucy's passion for the care of senior adults led her to a lifetime of service and leadership in the industry. Lucy served in numerous capacities throughout her career and retired in June 2021 as the Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Community Health Systems, Inc. (“CHSGa”). Even in retirement she remained committed to her personal mission as an advocate for senior adults through her membership on the Board of Directors of CHSGa.

“Today we can celebrate the privilege of Lucy's influence on our organization as well as on all those whose lives she touched and will continue to touch. Lucy epitomizes servant leadership through her heart of service and her devotion to her faith, her family, her friends and those who care for our elderly and fragile population. May we all strive to live like Lucy!”

A Statement from GHCA VP of Quality Advancement/Regulatory Affairs Pam Clayton:

“Lucy Rogers, affectionately known as GHCA's Queen of Quality, was a pillar of our profession and a tireless advocate for those we serve. She was a practicing nurse for over 50 years and dedicated her life to enhancing the care provided to elderly Georgians.

“Lucy served in many leadership capacities within GHCA including as Chair of the Board between 2002 and 2004 and as Chair of the GHCA Quality Committee for 16 years. Additionally, she served on the Education & Research Foundation Board of Directors for over 21 years and played a pivotal role in the ongoing cultivation of the Foundation Nurse Scholarship Program, now named the Lucy M. Rogers Nurse Scholarship Program in her honor. True to her roots in the nursing profession, she was also a longtime supporter of the Georgia Association of Nursing in Long Term Care.

"Lucy also served on the Alliant Health Solutions/Georgia Medical Care Foundation Board of Directors for 23 years, on various DCH advisory committees, and on the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Organization's Advisory Boards. Her support and influence shaped the long term and post-acute profession as it is today, and she was a true inspiration to all who encountered her on their professional journey, myself included.

“While Lucy's passing leaves a void that only Lucy could fill, her life's work will endure through the foundation of quality she intentionally crafted as she built relationships, mentored others, and advocated for excellence in care and service. I am personally indebted to her uncompromising commitment to quality.

“We are profoundly grateful for her life of service and generous commitment of time and expertise to shape the Association and our platform of Quality First. GHCA will continue to honor her through our mission of service to Georgia's residents, patients and providers. “
