Maryam Mullen Elected as Chair of the Georgia Center for Assisted Living for 2024-2025

The Georgia Health Care Association/Georgia Center for Assisted Living (GHCA/GCAL) is pleased to announce Maryam Mullen, Executive Director of the William Breman Jewish Home, has been elected to serve as the Chair of the GCAL Board of Directors for 2024-2025. Mullen was elected to the position by the GCAL membership during a membership business meeting in May and installed by Speaker of the House Jon Burns during the GHCA Summer Convention on June 19, 2024, in Amelia Island, FL.

 “Maryam is an outstanding leader who is committed to GCAL's mission to advance the care provided to seniors and individuals with disabilities residing in Georgia's assisted living communities,” said GHCA/GCAL President & CEO Chris Downing. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work with her and the rest of the GCAL Board to continue to further the assisted living profession and enhance the lives of all those served by our GCAL member communities.”

As Chair, Mullen will be responsible for ensuring the proper governance of the Association and serve as the primary voice for the GCAL membership on the GHCA Board of Directors. She will also serve as a National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) State Leader.
 
Mullen previously worked as a mental health therapist for adults and youth and as a crisis clinician in a crisis stabilization unit. She also previously served as Director of Admissions and Social Services at the William Breman Jewish Home before becoming a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) and Executive Director of the community. She also served as the state and metro Atlanta president for the former Georgia Society of Social Service Professionals (GSSSP) from 2019-2021. In addition to being a LNHA, she holds the Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Assisted Living Certified Administrator (ALCA) certifications and hopes to earn a doctorate in the near future.
